NORBERT P BARR

-

1929-2020

My Dear Father, Norbert Barr, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 10, 2020. He suffered from lymphoma, but now he has been reunited in Heaven with the Love of His Life - my Loving Mother, Joan Barr, and my Sweet Sister, Adrienne Barr Vargas.

Norbert was born on December 14, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the eldest son of Pius and Frances (Cegielski) Barr. He graduated from the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the Delta Phi Fraternity, in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering and immediately began his career of 38 years with Shell Chemical Company, where he retired in 1990. He served our country in both the U.S. Army and Navy during the Korean War. Norb and Joan were married for 61 wonderful years, provided a loving home, and loved spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Joan and Norb built their dream home in Sugar Land in 1996 right on the golf course, as Norb’s favorite hobby was golf. He played at Sweetwater Country Club and enjoyed the comradery of his fellow golfers. Many family birthdays and holidays were enjoyed at the country club dining room.

Norb and Joan together enjoyed music. Norb played his Kawai baby grand piano and Joan played her Lowrey organ - they made beautiful music together! Norb and Joan also traveled extensively with their RV throughout the country soaking in the sights and visiting longtime friends and family. They called their RV their condo on wheels - they were always home wherever their destination.

Norb’s surviving relatives include his youngest brotherJerry (Nancy) Barr-Kissimmee, FL, brother-Jack Barr, daughter-Gretchen (Jack) Kramberger-The-Woodlands, TX, granddaughter-Joni Sablatura-Houston,
