John G. Doherty, Jr., born in San Antonio December 18, 1943, graduate of Central Catholic HS and The University of Texas, died in Houston December 4, 2020 from COVID-19. Memorial services and interment will be delayed to allow safe gathering of family and friends after the pandemic.

John is survived by Elaine, his wife of 53 years; his son John and wife Callie; his son Paul and wife Allison; his grandchild­ren Nolan, Ryan, Quinton and Natalie; and his brothers Michael, Thomas and James.

John loved his family, God, sports and numbers. He committed to his Catholic faith throughout his 76 years. John announced local football games for 15 years, including some of his own sons’ games. He compiled HS football game statistics for the Chronicle for 20 years. He was a Texas Longhorn football season ticket holder of 50 years, attending the 1969 & 2005 National Title Games. A lifelong Dodgers fan, he attended the 1977 World Series with his son, and enjoyed the 2020 Series on TV. John was a successful CPA business owner for 34 years and enjoyed serving his Houston Chapter of TSCPAs for two decades. His voice, loyalty and storytelli­ng will be dearly missed.
