Joan Lawson passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Presbyteri­an Hospital in Dallas, Texas after a week and a half battle with COVID-19.

Joan was born in Houston, Texas on February 13th, 1932 to Mr. and Mrs. Frank J.

Herb. She attended Edgar Allan Poe Elementary, Mirabeau B. Lamar High School and also Southern Methodist University in Dallas where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She married Harold “Hal” Lawson and they lived in Houston for many years. In later years Joan married Karl Edmund Nehr and they lived in Rancho Mirage, California. They later retired to a small plot of land in rural Greenville, Texas they named Yellow Rose Farm.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Edmund Nehr. She is survived by her daughter Cindy Lawson Thorp, sonin-law James Edward “Jim” Thorp, granddaugh­ters Lucy Thorp Suell (Doug) and Carolyn Thorp Osborne (Will) and great-grandchild­ren Emma James Thorp, Henry Thorp and Lila Brown Osborne. Joan’s family is most grateful for her devoted and loving caregivers Maria Torres, Tisha Marie Ellis, Gena Warden and Patricia Hernandez. Because of their care, Joan was able to spend her last years at home in her comfortabl­e chair watching TV with her dog, Coco at her side.
