MARGARET J. “RITA” DODDS MICHAELIS

-

1924-2020

Margaret J. “Rita” Dodds Michaelis passed away peacefully to join her Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 6, 2020. She departed this earthly life cradled in the arms of her beloved son, Glen Michaelis.

Born in Whithorn, Scotland in 1924, Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Rolf Michaelis, her parents, Margaret and Peter Dodds, and her sister, Mary Konopko.

In their long and loving marriage, Rita and

Rolf travelled extensively together in Europe and the Middle East. Eventually they purchased a beautifully situated home with spectacular ocean views on the island of Majorca, Spain and split their time between Houston and Majorca. Like her son and his long-term partner, Ben Groll, Rita was an avid collector of art and antiques, many acquired from various points around the world, and proudly displayed them in her homes as treasures from their global travels.

A happy and gentle spirit, Rita made the lives she touched so much richer from time spent with her. Fortunate indeed were those who were lucky enough to call Rita their friend.

Rita and Rolf were longtime members of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, where they spent many years worshipping together as a family. Their Church family was a treasured part of their spiritual lives.

Due to restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 virus, no funeral or memorial services are planned at this time. Any such events will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations may be made in Rita’s name to The Humane Society of the United States at 1255 23rd Street NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC 20037; or to The Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030; or to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056. We will miss you, our darling Rita, until we meet again in God’s Heavenly realm.
