Nembhard, TCU top TexasA&M

FORT WORTH — RJ Nembhard scored 16 points and distribute­d nine assists and TCU beat Texas A&M 73-55 on Saturday.

Mike Miles scored 15 with five assists for the Horned Frogs (5-2), PJ Fuller scored 13 with four assists and TCU tallied 22 assists.

Texas A&M (3-1) shot 18 for 47 (38 percent) and missed 13 of 17 from 3point range. Jay Chandler led the Aggies with 12 points, Quenton Jackson scored 11 and Emanuel Miller 10.

Miles’ layup with 12:03 remaining before halftime gave the Horned Frogs an 11-10 lead and they led the rest of the way. TCU went on to outscore the Aggies 30-8 over the next nine minutes and went on to build a 42-21 halftime lead.

Jaedon LeDee’s layup with 14:12 remaining gave TCU its largest lead at 58-25.

Despite the fact it was the 165th all-time game between the two teams, it was their first against each other since 1996 when both were in the former Southwest Conference.

NO. 20 FSU 83, FLORIDA 71

Freshman Scottie Barnes scored 17 points and the Seminoles extended dominance against the rival Gators with a victory that came after the Gators’ best player collapsed on the court and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Keyontae Johnson, the Southeaste­rn Conference’s preseason player of the year, was taken off the floor on a stretcher and transporte­d to Tallahasse­e Memorial for evaluation. Florida officials said he was in critical but stable condition.

Florida (3-1) was ahead 11-3 after Johnson’s dunk. The Seminoles (3-0) scored the next seven points and pulled away.

FSU extended its winning streak against Florida to seven games, tying the longest by either team in the series.

The host Tigers held off a late charge from the Illini and overcame 36 points from Fighting Illini star Ayo Dosunmu.

Dru Smith had 17 points for Missouri (5-0). Illinois (4-2) trailed by 13 with nine minutes left but tied it before the Tigers closed out the upset.

NO. 12 TENNESSEE 65 CINCINNATI 56

John Fulkerson had 15 points and 12 rebounds, helping the host Volunteers pull away late in the second half.

A 3-pointer by David DeJulius put Cincinnati ahead 53-51 with 6:14 left. The 6-foot-9 Fulkerson came back with four foul shots, giving the Vols (2-0) the lead for good.

Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 15 points in his return from an ankle injury and the Red Raiders gave coach Chris Beard his 100th victory with the program at Frisco.

Freshman Micah Peavy and graduate transfer Marcus Santos-Silva scored 12 points apiece for the

Red Raiders (6-1).

NO. 2 BAYLOR VS. NO. 13 TEXAS CANCELED

No. 2 Baylor has paused team activities because of COVID-19 issues, leading the Bears to call off their Big 12 opener scheduled for Sunday against No. 13 Texas.

Baylor’s scheduled game Tuesday night against Tarleton State has also been postponed.

Freshman Paige Bueckers scored 17 points in her UConn debut, and the Huskies won in a rout at Storrs, Conn.
