PRIME PROPERTY
A detailed look at one of the area’s most distinctive homes.
This English Georgianstyle home, at 2 Longfellow Lane in Shadyside inWest University, was originally built for David D. Peden, president of the Peden Iron and Steel Company, one of the largest hardware and supply houses in the Southwest. Designed by prominent New York architect Harrie T. Lindeberg and his protege John F. Staub, this preserved home is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places.
Shadyside is also most significant architecturally for the four houses designed by Harrie T. Lindberg, and this 12,808-square-foot home sits on 1.7 acres and is situated to the right of the entrance gate, making it the Lindeberg house most clearly visible from Main.
The home features intricate kitchen features, including a wine room door with semi-antique glass and Pemko weather-stripping around opening, LED tape lighting around all glass doors, under-cabinet lighting, metal grids with antique glass, stainless-steel drawer storage for bread, custom cutlery dividers, hidden electrical outlets inside cabinets as well us under upper cabinets, two Bosch Eco-Sense dishwashers with paneled fronts, spice storage pullout, knife block pullout, Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer with corresponding drawers, Sub-Zero ice maker, Sharp Insight Pro microwave drawer, Thermador convection oven/dehydrator, Thermador microwave, Thermador warming drawer, Wolf range, and a copper bar/ prep faucet.
The home also comes with furniture pieces custom made by Artitalia in Italy. All carpets are wool, with the exception of an office. The dining room rug has Swarovski crystals hand-sewn into the design. The hand-carved dining room paneling is original, and the dining and living room crown molding is plaster.
The home fetures a carriage house that was completely gutted and now has new piping, and electrical and wiring system. Both the carriage and main house have slate roofs, and a mosquito system is placed throughout the entire property. There is also a pool and an invisible fence placed at the house gate for dogs, and the guest shower at the back of the home has a steam system built in.
One of two offices has a refrigerator, and the kitchenette in the master suite has refrigerator and microwave, while the kitchenette next to the gym has a refrigerator and microwave.
The gun room has leather walls and ceilings, E.B. knobs and pulls, and the safe room has drawers lined with felt. The home also highlights seven fireplaces, six of which are original and hand carved, and with the fireplace in the “governess” suite being new.
Priced at $10,900,000, this five-bedroom home with six full baths and three halfbaths is listed by Marc Allen Ziegler with Douglas Elliman.
