MARIAN WAGNER “CHICKIE” BROWN 1922-2021

-

Marian Wagner “Chickie” Brown, age 98, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2021. She was born on November 9, 1922 to Marian Garver and Dr. J Huber Wagner. At age 18 in 1941, she eloped and married Alfred John Brown II. She was preceded in her death by her husband, her brother Dr. Jack Wagner, stepbrother Drury Cargill and granddaughter Michelle Smith. Chickie was well loved by everyone who knew her. She often looked at the world through rosecolored glasses and never met a stranger. She absolutely loved the beach and loved to surf. Over the years she spent as much time there as she could with her children and friends teaching them how to surf and look for shark teeth. She loved having fun and her joy for life was always felt by friends and family. She had that special spark for life. The family enjoyed many years going to New Braunfels where she and her husband Jack had as much fun as her children and grandchildren.

When the children were grown, she began her life-long dream of becoming an artist. She attended classes for many years at the Glassell School of Art with teachers Francesca Fuchs and Patrick Palmer.

She was quite successful, and her paintings were shown and exhibited in art shows and galleries. She had a very creative style and was known for painting classic funny captions on a number of her paintings. Arriving in a wheelchair, she was the center of attention at her art exhibit at the Art League of Houston where her creative artwork was displayed.

Her love for people and her family was unsurpassable. She had an open heart for everyone and was loved by all who knew her. She was a very loving mother and is survived by her children Donna, Melissa, Matt, his wife Janienne and “adoptive” son Hugh Sullivan. Her grandchildren Brett Smith, wife Barbara, Kristen Smith Moran, husband Matt, Amy Brown Quinn, husband Woody, Erin Marian Nunoz, Ayla and Jack Brown.

In addition, her great grandchildren Avery and Holden Smith, Luke, Lauren, Kyle and Tyler Moran, Dylan Villareal, John Harrison, Jackson Quinn, Leslie Hall, Kinlee and Sawyer Nunoz.

Family and friends are invited to attend an in-person or virtual Memorial Mass on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 1:30 pm at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood Dr., Houston, TX 77081. There will be a Rosary preceding the mass at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to the Glassell School of Art or Houston Art League.
