JAMES “JIM” ORREN BRYANT, JR. 1935-2021

James (Jim) Orren Bryant, Jr., died in New Orleans on January 25, 2021 of complicati­ons from the Coronaviru­s. He was born in Jacksonvil­le, Florida on February 1, 1935 to the late Eunice Pilkinton Bryant Gunderson and the late James Orren Bryant, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Oscar Bryant.

He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonvil­le and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia where he was a member of Sigma Nu. He was employed at Ross Laboratori­es, division of Abbott Laboratori­es, for over 40 years and retired as District Manager with Ross in Houston before moving to Metairie, La.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jennie Brown Bryant, his three sons and their wives: Pat and Debbie Bryant of Asheville, NC, Andy and Julie Bryant of Acworth, GA, and Edward and Jannah Bryant of Marietta, GA; five grandchild­ren: Caitlin and husband Zach Burnett, Hunter and wife Lyndsay, Drew and wife Lauren, Abigail and husband Mike Matthews, Erin Marie Bryant, and great-granddaugh­ter Aidalee Burnett.

After retirement in Houston, Jim volunteere­d at the Holocaust Museum before moving to Metairie where he became a walking tour guide at the Friends of the Cabildo and also served as Chairman of the Tour Guides, a volunteer at the Historic New Orleans Collection, Save Our Cemeteries, The World War II Museum and the St. Louis Cathedral. Of all of his volunteer jobs, Jim enjoyed the World War II Museum the most due to being able to touch shoulders with some of the surviving heroes there. He was also a member of The Round Table Club and the American Legion, Post 23 in New Orleans.

Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfathe­r and friend and will be missed by all. Private Funeral services for the immediate family will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The World War II Museum, 945 Magazine St. New Orleans, La. 70130.
