GERALDINE “JERRY” (HINE) JORGENSEN
1925-2021
1/13/25-2/11/21
Born in Muskogee to Otto & Gaynelle Hine the same day as her best friend Virginia, Jerry was joyful & whip smart. She went to Baylor for 3 years before receiving a Bachelor’s in Science at Univ. of OK. A trailblazer, she conducted pioneering research (such as organ transplants & malaria vaccines) in labs across the US from the 40s through the 70s.
In 1946, Jerry wed Lloyd Willard & had 2 daughters: Lee Ella & Emily Jane. They moved to Texas & lived in Galveston, Houston & Dallas. Jerry was working at Parkland Hospital the day of the JFK assassination, & often shared remembrances of that fateful day.
After Lloyd died in 1969, Jerry wed fellow scientist, Dr. George Jorgensen in 1970. They enjoyed more than 50 years together, & were very active with West U Baptist Church where Jerry worked for years as a financial secretary. She also performed with their Prime Time Singers, often as a soloist.
Jerry had a close lifelong relationship with Jesus & will spend eternity with him. Her greatest legacy was a genuine desire to help others, & those touched by her generosity are too numerous to count.
She was preceded in death by her sister Adnah, daughter Lee & grandson Ricky. She is survived by her devoted husband George, brother Ted, daughter Emily, sons-in-law Jeremiah & Manny; granddaughters Tiffany, Naomi, Faith, Raven & Melissa; great-grandchildren Jessica, Joshua, Elijah, Linden, Henry, Charlie, Kayla & Liam and numerous relatives & friends. To honor Jerry’s love of animals, donations may be made to the HSPCA. Interment, Forest Park Lawndale.
