Martha Brown Gibson was born on August 2nd, 1927 in Lexington Kentucky, the only child of Birdie McKinney Brown and James Brown. She passed away on January 25th, 2021 in Houston, Texas. A funeral mass will be held at

St. Ignatius Catholic Church on March 26, 2021. She was raised in Lexington and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Kentucky, where she was also a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. While there, she met Joseph G. Gibson and they were married in 1949. Joe also graduated from University of Kentucky with a master’s degree in petroleum engineerin­g. Joe went to work for Texaco and they then moved to New Orleans. There they became the parents of two boys Michael J. Gibson and Jeffrey G. Gibson, both of whom survive her. During their marriage they moved to New Orleans, Oklahoma City, New York and finally Houston in 1970. In Houston, Martha obtained her real estate broker’s license. Her career included working for

Jim West, Doyle Stuckey, Realmco, Coldwell Banker, and The Originals. Over the years Martha delighted in entertaini­ng all their family, neighbors, and business associates (many of whom became lifelong friends, despite all the moving around). An avid bridge player and sportswoma­n, Martha enjoyed riding, golf, target shooting, water skiing, swimming, and cooking. Her ashes will be placed with Joe’s at the Houston National Cemetery following her funeral mass.
