Susan Rowan Philbin

Susan Philbin passed away on February 24, 2021 at her residence in Spring, TX. She was born in Wharton, TX to the late Eugene A. Philbin and Lorena (Rowan) Brock.

Susan was raised in the Tulsa, OK and Ft. Worth areas and moved to Topeka, KS in 1972 where she resided until 2011 when she moved to Stockbridg­e, MA. After a few years in Stockbridg­e, she moved back to her home state of Texas and settled in Spring, TX north of the city of Houston.

Susan graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. She discovered her passion in the travel industry, finding great joy in helping dreams come true planning vacations of lifetime. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed swimming, hiking, yoga and travel. Susan loved her friends and animals. On the morning she passed, there were at least 50 or more Gold Finches in her yard eating from her bird feeders, almost as if they came to say thank you and goodbye.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Lawrence Brock and brother, Stephen

H. Philbin. Susan is survived by her stepsister, Monet Brock, (CA), stepbrothe­r, Lawrence Brock, (AZ), cousins, Ed and Jennifer

Pitts, (Houston, TX), Jeanne Rowan, (Asheville, NC), Ford Rowan, (Annapolis, MD), Suzanne Babcock, (Dallas, TX). Her chosen family, Eric Lugger, Eithne McKibbin, her deeply loved Asher and Beatrix McKibbin Lugger, (Spring, TX), and Jessica Burlingame, (Stockbridg­e, MA).

Relatives and friends are invited to her graveside service on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Wharton City Cemetery, Wharton, TX.

This not for profit organizati­on will also be creating a bird sanctuary, with a tribute to Susan in Spring Trails, very near Susan’s residence in Spring, Texas. Or, you may wish to donate to the charity of your choice.
