HALMOND K STANFIELD “HK”

-

1929-2021

H.K. passed away peacefully February 18th 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Amarillo, Texas on August 17, 1929 to his parents Halmond and Phyllis Stanfield.

He attended and graduated from The University of Texas and became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity where he enjoyed lifelong friendships. It was in 1951 close to graduation when he met the love of his life Marcia Lamberth and were married. Marcia was the granddaughter of Mefo Foster who founded The Houston Chronicle newspaper in 1901. After graduation he went onto law school and obtained his law degree from South Texas Law School. They had one daughter Linda Lee Stanfield. He practiced law in Houston until 1961 and while on vacation with Marcia and Linda fell in love with California. He passed the California bar exam and moved to Los Angeles. While practicing law in California he worked for Aristotle Onassis as his personal legal attorney. He enjoyed traveling many years with and for him throughout Europe and Greece. Aristotle was once married to Jackie Kennedy who was married to President John F. Kennedy. He worked for him until his death in 1975.

He was a true visionary. He built the first miniature golf (putt putt) in Houston. He also had the first 2 cruise ships in Galveston that sailed to Cozumel in the 1970’s. He wanted them to be small but luxurious and carried 250 people. What fun we had.

He also loved to fly. He obtained his pilots license at age 14 and owned numerous planes throughout the years and flew all over the country.

He loved Mexico, especially Puerto Vallarta and spent as much time there as he could with his family. He was always ready to go to Mexico. He made life long friends where ever he and Marcia went.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Marica Stanfield. He is survived by his dedicated daughter Linda and husband Marc and his grandchildren Chad McClard and Laura Durkee who he adored.

The family would like to thank Belmont Village Hunters Creek staff and caregivers La Meeka Forward and Erica David.

So, Daddy, pick me up on the landing strip of heaven when its my time to go.

Due to Covid-19 a gathering to celebrate H.K.’s life will be held at a later date.

Donations maybe made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
