-

Dana Kay Padgett was 61 when she died on March 7, 2021. Dana received an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from Vanderbilt. Her first job out of college was in Clear Lake at the Johnson Space Center writing code for the Shuttle Flight Design system with Computer Sciences Corporation. It was at JSC that she met her future husband,

Mike, and they were married in 1983. Later, she went to the University of Houston for an MFA in Painting. She spent most of her working career teaching art history and topics in contemporary art at the University of Houston and at various community colleges in the Houston area.

Dana was an active lap swimmer at the YMCA in Houston while enjoying snorkeling, surfing and generally being in the ocean. She enjoyed biking around Texas, and in the summer, hiking in the mountains of Colorado or, really, anywhere. She loved seeing all forms of plant life and wildlife whether it was birds at the Rookery in High Island, whales, sea turtles or plants along a trail. She loved watching the deer, moose and elk of the Rockies, even grizzly bears during encounters in Montana. Dana lived as an active lover of nature.

Dana is survived by her parents Guy and Dorothy Birmingham (Houston), the family of Paige and Paul Lamothe (cousins, Baton Rouge, La.) and the family of Mary Ruth and Mickey Cohlmia (aunt and uncle, Midland, Tx). She is also survived by her husband, Michael John Padgett, his father and his brothers and their families. Finally, she is survived by all who knew her and will miss her bright light in this world.

Dana’s ashes have been placed next to her brother, Britton Birmingham, in Glenwood Cemetery, Houston. In memoriam, please add a post to her web page at https:// www.bradshawcarter.com/ tributes. A service for friends may be planned for later.
