Neal, Cowboys finalize one-year, $5 million deal

DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys and free agent safety Keanu Neal agreed on a one-year, $5 million deal that will reunite the former Atlanta player with new Dallas defensive coordinato­r Dan Quinn, two people with knowledge of the deal told the Associated Press on Saturday.

Neal spent his first five seasons with the Falcons after getting drafted in the first round in 2016 when Quinn was coach. Quinn was fired last season and joined the Cowboys this offseason.

Neal missed most of 2018 with a torn ACL in his left knee and then was out almost all of 2019 after tearing his left Achilles tendon.

In other NFL news:

• The Chicago Bears signed veteran cornerback Desmond Trufant toa one-year contract to replace former All-Pro Kyle Fuller.

GOLF Jones ahead by 3 at Honda Classic

Aaron Wise had a sixshot lead during the third round of The Honda Classic at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., looking poised to turn the tourney into a rout.

Everything went wrong from there, and Matt Jones took full advantage.

The 40-year-old Australian handled the wind at PGA National to shoot a 1-under 69 on Saturday, going to 10 under for the tournament and moving three shots clear of Wise and J.B. Holmes.

C.T. Pan had a 65 to get to 6 under, along with Cameron Tringale (69) and Sam Ryder (72). In other news:

• Justin Harding will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Kenya Open after a 7-under 64.

Johannes Veerman is one of three players sharing second after a 9-under 62 for a course record.

COLLEGE BASEBALL Texas defeats Baylor at Waco

Aaron Nixon record his second straight save as No. 10 Texas beat Baylor 4-3 at Waco.

The Longhorns (14-5, 2-0) and Bears went back and for through the early innings before Texas grabbed the lead for good in the sixth on DJ Petrinsky’s two-run single. In other games:

• Every Oklahoma starter had at least one hit as the Sooners pounded Houston 19-1 at Norman, Okla.

• No. 5 Florida took the series finale from Texas A&M with an 8-4 win at Gainesvill­e, Fla.

Austin Bost and Bryce Blaum led the Aggies at the plate. Bost batted 3-for-5 and Blaum was 3-for-4.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL Sam Houston St. routs Lamar 62-7

Eric Schmid accounted for six touchdowns as No. 7 Sam Houston State routed Lamar 62-7 at Provost Humphrey Stadium in Beaumont.

Schmid rushed for 49 yards and four touchdowns and completed 21-of-33 passes for 350 yards and two scores as the Bearkats rolled up 504 yards on offense.

Jequez Ezzard caught four passes for 130 yards and two TDs for the Bearkats (3-0, 3-0 Southland).

The Cardinals (1-3, 1-3 SLC) finished the night with 179 yards of offense. In other action:

• Ladarius Skelton was 9-of-14 passing for 158 yards and two touchdowns and added 75 yards rushing on 12 carries, Skykee Thomas had a 98-yard kickoff return for a score, and Southern beat host Texas Southern 51-23.

Jarod Sims ran for two scores and added 22-yard TD catch for Southern (1-1, 1-1 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference).

TSU’s Jalen Brown hit Ke’Lenn Davis for a 54yard touchdown. Brown finished 20-of-35 passing for 275 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers (0-2, 0-2).

MOTOR SPORTS Busch records milestone win

Kyle Busch raced to his 60th NASCAR Trucks Series victory with a dominating performanc­e at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday.

Busch pulled way over the last 30 laps and finished more than 4 seconds ahead of the field.

The Kyle Busch Motorsport­s team also picked up a third-place finish from series leader John Hunter Nemechek.

Austin Hill was second in his best showing of the season.

RUGBY SaberCats down Seattle in opener

The SaberCats opened their season with a 30-24 victory over the Seattle Seawolves at AVEVA Stadium.

“We stuck to our system,” SaberCats assistant coach Paul Emerick said. “That’s what created the opportunit­y for Matias out wide and unmarked. It was a well finished try.”

Houston flyhalf Sam Windsor helped seal the win for the SaberCats late, converting on a big kick at the 75-minute mark.

He hit 3-of-4 of his penalty kicks.

SOCCER Dynamo beat Austin Bold FC

The Dynamo opened preseason play with 2-0 victory over Austin Bold FC at BBVA Stadium.

Christian Ramirez and Ari Lassiter scored goals.
