Windows 10 offers plenty of options for reset
Q: What are the steps to reimage a computer and bring it back to factory settings? I want to wipe out all applications and data and end up with a clean machine running only Windows in return.
A: Windows 10 is the first Microsoft operating system that gives you a lot of options for resetting your computer.
These options include anything from simply removing a troublesome update to going back to a previous version of the operating system to even going all the way to back to a base load of the system.
Most of these options can be quite handy in recovering a failing system and do not require you to completely remove everything from the computer.
But sometimes a complete wipe and reload is the only solution. But before considering that, you might want to check to see if your computer’s maker has a recovery option specific to your
PC.
If you want to learn more about Windows 10 recovery options, there is a helpful article from Microsoft called Recovery options in Windows 10 at tinyurl.com/helplinerecovery that explains the options.
Q: When I read your column, you often include links that start with tinyurl.com. Can you tell me why you do that?
A:
Tinyurl.com is what is known as a URL shortener.
Many of the links I want to share with readers are too long to put into my column, so I use this service to create abbreviated web addresses.
This makes the column look a little cleaner, as some URLs are quite long.
