Texans promote K Slye, TE Auclair

- STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

The Texans have elevated kicker Joey Slye and tight end Antony Auclair from the practice squad, the league announced Saturday.

The NFL’s pandemic-era rules allow teams to promote two players from the practice squad each week, essentially creating a temporary 55-man roster. They’re eligible to play in the game, then revert to the practice squad afterward without having to pass through waivers.

Slye will play in Sunday’s season opener against the Jaguars in place of the injured Ka’imi Fairbairn, who was placed on the injured list this Wednesday with a muscle pull he suffered during warmups before the preseason finale against the Buccaneers. Fairbairn will miss at least three games.
