ALBERT B. “BARNEY” HEROD, JR.

Albert B. “Barney” Herod, Jr. was born on the 14th of September 1924, in Houston, the son of Albert B. Herod,

Sr. and Eileen McNeil Herod, passed away in Houston on Tuesday, the 14th of September, one day after turning 97 years of age.

Barney Houston Public Schools, graduating from Lamar Senior High, class of 1941and advancing to Texas A&M from where he graduated in the class of 1945.

He served in World War II with the 1st Cavalry Division in the Philippine­s and the Occupation of Japan, attaining rank of Captain. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Heroism and Oak Leaf Cluster.

Barney was a partner with his father and two uncles,

Don and Odell, for 35 years as Herod Brothers Furniture Co. serving as President of the Houston Furniture Dealers and as Director and then Vice President of Retail Furniture Associatio­n of Texas. In 1980 he joined First City Bank and rose to the level of Vice President. He was designated as Certified Financial Planner in 1985.

He was a member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church since 1956, serving at one time as a member of the Associate Vestry. His wife, Margretta Fox Herod, departed in 1989, and afterward he had a beloved friend Bonnie Macmillian who also passed away.

Barney was father to son Albert “Bert” Herod, a Vietnam veteran, now deceased, and a daughter Elizabeth who is married to Robert Thompson and resides in New Orleans. He also has four grandchild­ren, Kiah Herod, Albert Herod IV, Sarah Fortenberr­y and Joseph Herod. Other family members include his devoted cousin Judy Tyson, and her husband Michael.

The family will gather for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
