GLORIA VICTORIA (SHULTZ) ISAACS

1942-2021

-

On August 31, 2021, Gloria Victoria Isaacs, 78, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully at MD Anderson Hospital after a courageous five year battle with lung cancer. Born on September 4, 1942, in Houston, she was preceded in death by her parents Lee Bernal and Jeanette (Garcia) Castro and her sister Norma Casas. Her formative years were spent in Houston, where she graduated from Marion High School (now Episcopal High). Thereafter, she married and gave birth to four dear sons and spent a number of years in Conroe, Texas, during which she became a world class gardener and refined her culinary expertise. There she also learned to hunt and fish,

In the early 1990’s Gloria returned to Houston to enter the nursing profession. She worked at Diagnostic Clinic of Houston and later at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. It was during this time that she met her husband-to-be Dr. George Isaacs, whom she married in 2003. Due to a shoulder injury Gloria retired from nursing to pursue some of her favorite pastimes, including cooking, listening to classical music and old-time songs, making costume jewelry, reading mystery novels, traveling to distant places, fly fishing, and gardening. She always had time to cuddle her beloved dogs Maggie, Sugar, and Sugarbaby, who are no longer with us. Her wellattended family Thanksgiving dinners were extra-special gourmet delights, and no one ever went home without leftovers. Gloria never learned to cook for anything less than a small army. She had an infectious smile, a kind nurturing nature, and she was very generous, especially with her family and close friends. Yet, she could be feisty and mischievous, when provoked. Pulling little tricks or surprises on unsuspecting family members was part of her repertory, especially around Halloween.

She is survived by her husband, George, sons Vincent Worley( Laura), Duke Coon, Jody Coon, and Danny Coon; brother Lee Garcia (Mickey), sisters Hope Castro, Rose Willingham (Randy), and Diane Tellier(Tim); grandchildren Joseph, Emily, Lauren, Rex, Gabby, and Brooke; stepsons Jason Isaacs (Leise), and Mark Isaacs (Susan).

She was a woman of strong faith. Gloria is loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial celebration of her life is planned for Oct. 1 at 10AM in St. Michael’s Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston.
