Mordecai, SMU win on final play
RUSTON, La. — Tanner Mordecai threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Roberson Jr. on the final play to give SMU a 39-37 win at Louisiana Tech in a nonconference game Saturday.
Austin Kendall fired an 11-yard strike to Marcus Williams Jr. with 5:07 left, then set up a 38-yard field goal by Cesar Barajas to give Louisiana Tech a 37-33 advantage with :36 to play.
Mordecai drove the Mustangs 73 yards in six plays for the game winner.
The game featured former Oklahoma quarterbacks as opposing starters. Both Mordecai and Kendall were Sooners in
2018 before both opted to transfer. Mordecai is a fourth-year junior. Kendall is a sixth-year graduate transfer.

Dylan Hopkins threw three touchdown passes and the Blazers rolled to a road victory over the Mean Green in a Conference USA opener.
Hopkins completed 6 of 7 passes for 202 yards with a pair of scoring throws to Gerrit Prince and a 38-yard touchdown pass to Trea Shropshire.
Prince finished with three receptions for 136 yards. He caught a 42-yard touchdown pass late in the first quarter.

Trae Self threw for two touchdowns and Stephen F. Austin’s defense produced two touchdowns and the Lumberjacks dismantled the Delta Devils.
After forcing the Delta Devils to three-and-out on the opening drive, Self threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Gipson to end a five-play, 66-yard drive.

Cameron Ward threw for 376 yards and four touchdowns and the Cardinals beat the Bobcats on the road.
In a game featuring seven lead changes, Ward threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Darion Chafin with 7:07 left to play for a 35-31 lead and Incarnate Word led the rest of the way.
UTSA 27, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 13
Frank Harris passed for 264 yards and Sincere McCormick rushed for 105 as the Roadrunners defeated the Blue Raiders at home in the Conference USA opener for both teams.
UTSA (3-0) nearly picked up its second shutout of the season, holding the Blue Raiders scoreless until the final 3½ minutes.
