ROSEMARY WATSON KAHLE COMSTOCK

1931-2022

-

Rosemary Watson Kahle Comstock died April 29, 2022, in Bryan, TX, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Wheeling, WV to Elizabeth Jane Watson Kahle and Melvin Wesley Kahle on October 24, 1931.

Rosemary attended Smith College and graduated from West Virginia University in 1953 where she met her husband Larry Scheib “Dugan” Comstock as he waited tables at the Pi Beta Phi sorority house. She married Dugan on October 16, 1954, and together they raised their four children in Wheeling and Fairmont, WV, and in El Paso, San Antonio, and Houston, TX. She gracefully orchestrated several moves associated with Dugan’s long career with S.C. Johnson.

She made friends easily in every place she lived. She and Dugan retired to Lago Vista, TX where she was very active in church and community until 2007 when she moved back to Houston.

Rosemary enjoyed volunteer work, was a member of the Junior League, and served others through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister to the homebound.

She played tennis and golf and was an avid and skilled bridge player throughout her life. She also loved Mahjong and Onze, a game she played with her family and friends for years. All agree there was no better place to be than at the game table playing cards with Rosemary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Melvin Kahle Jr., and is survived by her children, Elizabeth Jane Riley and husband Mark, Mary Hobbs and husband Greg, Elwyn Charles “Chip” Comstock and wife Barbara, and Sallie Alcorn and husband George. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy - Sean Riley and wife Lisa, Timothy Riley, Kathleen Hunt and husband Jordan, Charles Hobbs, Rosemary Daniel and husband Geoff, Edward Hobbs, Daniel Comstock and wife Kameron, Peter Comstock and wife Alison, Catharine Roller and husband Andrew, George Alcorn III, Maria Alcorn and fiancé Michael Wahl, Elizabeth Jane Alcorn, and Susan Alcorn. She also had eleven great grandchildren with one more on the way! She is affectionately remembered by her sister-in-law Carol Kahle, sister-in-law Molly Hye, and brother-in-law Tom Hye, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, May 6, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston. Donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Michael Catholic Church.
