Mrs. Evelyn Virginia Arquette Forney died Sunday, April 24, 2022, Divine Mercy Sunday. She was born January 16, 1923, in Eagle Pass, Texas to Stella and John Arquette, graduating from Eagle Pass High School in 1940 and attended Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. At the outbreak of World War II, she began her civil service career at Kelly Field Headquarte­rs, and then fell in love with a young man from Kingfisher, Oklahoma, an outstandin­g Army Air Corps pilot. On June 26, 1943, Evelyn married Lt. William Harry Forney, in Altus, Oklahoma. Evelyn was a wife, a mother, a grandmothe­r, a great-grandmothe­r, and a great-great-grandmothe­r!

She was one of the Greatest Generation, having lived through the Great Depression and World War II.

She is survived by her six children: Janice Forney Barrett (the late Pat M. Barrett Jr.), Lexington, MS; William H. Forney, Jr. (Carolyn Wolf Forney), Houston, TX; Jacquelyn Forney Hammett (Harold P. Hammett, Jr.), Lexington, MS; Charles Thomas Forney (Jody Masterson Forney), San Antonio,

TX; Phillip Dean Forney (Sarah Harrison Forney), San Antonio, TX; and Jeanette Forney Van Wicklen (Steven L. Van Wicklen, DDS), Austin, TX.

Evelyn is also survived by 17 grandchild­ren, 27 great-grandchild­ren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stella and John Arquette, her husband, William Harry Forney and her brother, Major (8th Air Force) Leroy Arquette, USAF, Ret.

Visitation will be held at Porter Loring, 1101 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, TX, 78212, on Thursday, May 5th at 5pm. A Rosary Service will follow at 6pm. A Mass of the Resurrecti­on will be celebrated at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, 111 Barilla Pl, San Antonio, TX 78209, on Friday, May 6th at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Peter Prince of the Apostles School, 112 Marcia Pl, San Antonio, TX 78209, or the charity of your choice.
