Representatives from the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA), Taylor Morrison, the two charities that are beneficiaries of the project and special guests gathered at the community pool clubhouse in Grand Vista to help mark the official groundbreaking of the first GHBA Benefit Homes Project home for 2022. Taylor Morrison and a number of guest speakers led the ceremony.

Speakers were Todd Rasmussen, division president of Taylor Morrison; Scott Merovitch, Benefit Homes Project chair; and Jennifer Keller, GHBA CEO. Speakers representing the charities were Carole Brady, executive director of HomeAid Houston and Lee Kirgan, vice president of construction for Operation Finally Home.

Taylor Morrison is building its popular Dahlia plan in its community of Grand Vista.

Each year two homes are built for this GHBA charity fundraiser with donated land, construction management, materials, labor and services by GHBA members. These homes are constructed with upgrade materials and features and are sold at market value. Since the project began 42 years ago, over $12 million has been raised.

“It was such an incredible event to mark the beginning of construction with the dozens of vendors and special guests who joined in the groundbreaking celebration,” said Keller. “All Benefit home groundbreakings are huge milestones for the charities and the entire Benefit homes team. The energy and excitement of the occasion is an inspiration to everyone who attends.”

The Dahlia is a 1,532 sq. ft. onestory home with three bedrooms, two baths and a two-car garage. An extended formal foyer flows into an open-concept gathering room and kitchen. There is also a formal dining room.

The private owner’s suite is located at the back of the home, offering a beautiful retreat with its wall of windows that capture the light. There are two closets that provide storage for separate wardrobes, a double-door entry to the owner’s bath, a vanity with dual sinks and a separate walk-in shower.

Grand Vista is located in the city of Richmond. It is ideal for today’s home buyers seeking all the advantages of contemporary suburban living just approximately 30 miles from downtown.

Grand Vista is 600-plus acres, with amenities including two community clubhouses and pools, playgrounds, an on-site elementary school and lakeside walking trails. The community offers one- and two-story floor plans priced from the $400,000s to $600,000s-plus.

Throughout the 42-year history of the GHBA Benefit Homes Project, more than 110 homes have been built with the help of donations.
