HCU is no match for 7-0 Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. — DeAndre Gholston scored 22 points, Kobe Brown had 19 points and undefeated Missouri eased past Houston Christian 105-69 on Saturday.

Missouri has won its first seven games of a season for the first time since the 2013-14 team began 10-0. The Tigers play at Wichita State (3-2) on Tuesday.

Missouri made four 3-pointers in a gameopenin­g 16-0 run. The Tigers started the game shooting 85 percent from the field (11 of 13) for a 27-5 lead. Gholston scored a season-high 17 points in the first half.

Maks Klanjscek scored 17 points and Andrew King had 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Houston Christian (1-6).

Tristan Moore added 11 points. The Huskies turned it over 23 times.

TCU 79, NO. 25 IOWA 66

Micah Peavy scored 16 points and Mike Miles Jr. added 15 to lead the Horned Frogs to victory in the Emerald Coast Classic championsh­ip game at Niceville, Fla.

Miles, the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

The Horned Frogs (5-1) broke open what had been a nip-and-tuck battle up until about three minutes into the second half, when TCU went on a 13-4 run to grab a 58-43 lead.

Despite a career-high 23 points from senior Tiara Young and a season-best shooting performanc­e, the Cougars dropped an overtime decision to the Gators in the St. Pete Showcase at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Houston (1-5) forced Florida (6-1) to commit 30 turnovers. Houston ranks fifth nationally in forced turnovers per game (27.0).

Caitlin Bickle scored the last five points of the game, finishing with 18 to go with 12 rebounds, and the Bears held off the Wildcats in the Gulf

Coast Showcase semifinals at Estero, Fla.

After Villanova's Lucy Olsen tied the game at 70 with two minutes to go, the teams combined for five misses and three offensive rebounds before Bickle was fouled with 47.5 seconds to play.

She made both free throws and, on the Wildcats' next possession, they missed three more shots before Bickle corralled a rebound with 10.1 seconds to play and made two more free throws.

Baylor (5-1) will play the winner of No. 22 Michigan and South Florida for the title.

Villanova (5-1) ended up 4 of 22 from 3-point range and shot 41 percent while making 16 of 20 free throws.

Jaden Owen had a career-high 17 points for Baylor.
