NONA MAE FAIN

Nona Mae Fain died peacefully on December 19, 2022 encircled by the love of her family. She was born May
13, 1954 in Albany, GA to Nona Mae Snow and Robert Henry Fain, MD. The fifth of eight children, she grew up in Houston and was a graduate of Lamar High School and Vanderbilt University, and earned advanced degrees from Trinity University in San Antonio (Master of Healthcare Administration) and UTMB Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences-Galveston, where she was awarded a PhD in Nursing (Health Promotion, Healing and Human Response). She worked her entire career as a healthcare professional, either as a consultant, interim leader, or director. Her employment afforded her the opportunity to venture far from her home in Texas and experience the diverse culture and natural beauty of this country. Until its unfortunate closure during the pandemic, Nona was Director of The Gathering Place, a community outreach program of The Menninger Clinic serving a vulnerable population for whom she was a devoted advocate.
Nonie, as she was called by her family and friends, had many loves—her nieces, nephews, siblings, and friends.
She cherished her godchild Laura Turner Easterling. She loved the ocean, gardening, football, and most especially her beloved cattle dogs.
Predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert H.
Fain, Jr., MD, and nephew Whitman Fain Davis, Nonie is survived by her siblings Mary Johnson Chilvers and husband Derek of Weston, MA; Douglas W. Fain, DDS, MD and wife Chris of Stilwell, KS; Amy Fain Roseman of Chapel Hill, NC; Jenny Oates and husband Jay C. Oates, MD; Barbara Fain Davis and husband Lance H. Davis, and John Wythe Fain II, all of Houston.
A service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 2pm at River Oaks Baptist Church, with a reception to follow. The family would like to thank everyone at MDACC, at every level, for the kindness, compassion, and respect shown to our sister throughout her illness, and request that in lieu of flowers a contribution be made in her memory to MDAnderson Cancer Center, Leukemia and Stem Cell Research. https:// gifts.mdanderson.org
