John Lee Thompson passed away peacefully on December 23, 2022, after a brief illness. John was born and raised in Houston, Texas, by his parents Julia Eddleman Thompson and George McCullough Thompson.

John attended The Church of St. John the Divine, where he was confirmed and served as an acolyte as a young child. He loved team sports, especially little league baseball, football, tennis and hunting and fishing with his dad and brothers.

John graduated from Lamar High School in Houston and then attended Emory University, The Queens College at Oxford University, and London School of Economics. He earned a degree in Economics and Finance and began his career in corporate finance in New York City. After a few years, John settled back home in Houston and was passionate in the work he did and the numerous boards on which he served.

In 1986 John met the love of his life, Allison Harter. They soon married in Houston and began their beautiful life together. They are blessed with two children, Ellie Thompson Lawrence and John McCullough Thompson. John was a lifelong outdoorsma­n, who enjoyed fishing in Port O’Connor, hunting at his ranch in Goliad, and playing golf with friends. He was also John is survived by his wife of 36 years Allison Thompson, daughter Ellie Lawrence (Charles), son John McCullough Thompson (Sarah), mother Julia Eddleman Thompson, father George McCullough Thompson (Janet), 3 brothers; Lance (Dawn), Gregg (Carol), Bradley (Lori), brother-in-law Charles Harter IV, sister-inlaw Ellie Bale (David), and 5 nieces and 5 nephews.

John was an avid conversati­onalist who enjoyed connecting with people. We will all miss his kind spirit and positive attitude.

A service will be held at St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston, Texas 77019 on January 7, 2023 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to Coastal Conservati­on Associatio­n (CCA), St. John the Divine, or a charity of your choice.
