Gene Forbes, 86, an engineer who loved golfing and took pride in his tomato garden, died February 5, 2023. He was born in Missouri, but his father’s job took the family to an oil camp in the Cypress Fairbanks area when Gene was young. Gene attended Cypress Fairbanks High School, the University of Houston and Oklahoma University, where he graduated with a petroleum engineerin­g degree. He returned to Houston after college and met Carmen, the love of his life. They married in 1962 and raised two children in the Bellaire and Houston area. Gene worked for many years in the oilfield services industry writing code for drilling monitoring equipment that was deployed all over the world. Gene traveled extensivel­y while teaching customers how to run the equipment and enjoyed learning key phrases in the language of the country he was visiting. Most of his career was spent at Dresser Industries in the data unit department, where he also taught mud engineers. Upon retiring from Dresser, Gene worked for several years with Petron. Gene loved to play golf and spent many weekends outdoors with his Houston golf buddies. He took daily walks through his neighborho­od, and was always willing to lend a helping hand for a neighbor.

Gene is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Forbes, his mother, Margaret McMullen, and his wife, Carmen. Gene is survived by his daughter Mary Forbes, son Earl Forbes, (wife Denisa, stepchildr­en Catherine and Robert Figueroa) and granddaugh­ters Ashley Stanford, Chloe Forbes, and Sara Owens (husband Garrett), and great grandson Wyatt. He leaves behind his nephew Craig Friou and his wife Jane, great nephews Travis, Collin and Elliot and his great niece Elise.

Gene’s celebratio­n of life will be on Sunday, February 19 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home located at 12800 Westheimer near Dairy Ashford. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m. with a service at 10:30 a.m. and a small reception after the service.
