BARBARA WINDMEYER

-

Our mother was called home on November 18, 2023. Born in Houston, Texas to Henry and Carrie Nell Patterson. Barbara grew up in Houston and graduated from Jeff Davis High school. Married Walter “Charley” Windmeyer on June 5, 1959. Barbara and Charley raised 3 children in the Candlelight Woods neighborhood of Houston. While the kids were at school, she finished up her college degree at Houston Baptist University. Worked as Educational and Spelling Bee Coordinator at the Houston Chronicle for 20 years. In retirement, Barbara and Charley enjoyed travelling the world by plane and by boat. After Charley passed in 2009, Barbara took each grandchild on fantastic trips to faraway lands of their choosing. Barbara was a member of St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church and then after her move across town, she became a member of The Foundry Methodist Church. She also stayed very busy with her social groups. She was a member of OASIS book club, Republican Women Heritage group, Red Hat lunch group, Prosperity Bank Travel Club, All-Saints Church Houston Heights TALC, Dignity Memorial LIFT program, Shepherd Park Plaza Travelers, and Harris County Precinct 4 Seniors. In her retirement community, she served as “block captain.” In these later years, Mom was blessed to have a very special friendship with Richard Kerr, Sr. She and Richard became inseparable and enjoyed care-free and fun-filled days. They even became next-door-neighbors! Barbara loved life and found joy in all things. Always smiling or laughing and happy to see everyone. Family left to cherish her memories are her children, Charles (Beatriz), Kathy (Kevin), Becky (Joey), Grandchildren Lauren (Nikhil), Andrea, Luke, Audrey (Austen), Sam, and Tom. Barbara/Mother/Nana will be truly missed by many. Remembering her on her birthday, April 13th. We miss you, Mother.
