Residents at The Buckingham community give back and make a difference
April marks National Volunteer Month, a perfect time to give back and serve your community. Seniors who engage in volunteer work benefit from improved health, reduced stress, and enhanced cognitive function.
Acts of kindness are shown to have a ripple effect that touches both recipients and givers, creating a symphony of compassion and understanding.
At The Buckingham, residents embody the spirit of giving, understanding that real fulfillment lies in the joy of serving others both outside the community and with their neighbors inside the community.
The Buckingham’s Smile Squad, a group of independent living residents who don red aprons and visit skilled nursing residents to lift their spirits, is just one example of how a few hours of volunteering can make an impact on someone’s day.
Smile Squad members participate in activities such as puzzles, games, crafts, etc. and bring residents items they may need, but most importantly they are there to build friendships, provide hugs or just share a smile.
Whether it’s nurturing our community garden, spearheading donation drives, embracing fitness challenges or sharing new skills, the acts of kindness spreading through our halls at The Buckingham create relationships that last a lifetime.
