Clear Horizons graduate begins studies at West Point
Cadet Alexander J. LaRochelle, son of Marjorie LaRochelle of Houston and Joseph LaRochelle, completed Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy.
LaRochelle entered West Point on July 1 and has successfully completed six Cadet Basic Training units. After completing training, he earned a sharp-shooter level.
The initial military training program provides cadets with basic skills to instill discipline, pride, cohesion, confidence and a high sense of duty to prepare them for entry into the Corps of Cadets.
Areas of summer instruction included first aid, mountaineering, hand grenades, rifle marksmanship and nuclear, biological and chemical training.
LaRochelle began classes Aug. 19. The West Point curriculum offers 37 majors balancing physical sciences and engineering with humanities and social sciences leading to a bachelor of science degree.
He graduated from Clear Horizons Early College High School. He received his academy nomination from U.S. Rep. Pete Olson, R-Sugar Land.
LaRochelle has earned a first-degree black belt as a student of martial arts at Bushi Ban under Grand Master Zulfi Ahmed.
His academic plans include majoring in kinesiology with a minor in engineering.
He plans to graduate from West Point in 2017 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
