Hope and entertainment are the driving forces behind country singer Danny Gokey’s “best of both worlds” philosophy.

Under the BMG record label, Gokey’s idea of crossing over Christian messages within pop, jazz and ’80s throwback sounds comes to life in “Hope in Front of Me,” his new album set for release on Tuesday. The singer will perform songs from the 11-track project at 8 p.m. Saturday at the House of Blues.

“I’ve noticed that people recognize me more now from the songs, so it’s great that people finally are starting to recognize me based on my music,” said Gokey, a Season 8 fi- nalist on Fox’s “American Idol.” “‘American Idol’ is a powerful show so it’s great to see fans finally make that transition.”

His participation on the TV show lead to the release of his first album, “My Best Days,” in 2010. Gokey said his new album combines mainstream country and pop but doesn’t ignore his faith. “I’m definitely a man of faith, but I almost feel like there’s a prejudice when it comes to Christian singers. Some people think if you’re labeled a Christian singer you should stay making Christian songs, and I personally don’t believe that,” Gokey said.

Gokey also released a book titled “Hope in Front of Me” in 2013, about his experience going on “Idol” just weeks after the death of his first wife, Sophia Martinez. He married second wife Leyicet Peralta in January 2012.

Backed by powerful drums and airy vocal samples, the album’s title track describes “seeing dark and broken pieces” as insight to Gokey’s emotional journey.

In memory of his late wife he founded Sophia’s Heart Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping sick and homeless fami- lies get back on their feet. The foundation has been financially backed by many organizations and influential figures, including Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen.

Gokey said he hopes his second album provides inspiration for people struggling in life.

“Sophia’s death could have been an issue that buried me for the rest of my life, but it’s because of her that I have an organization in her name who has already taken more than 75 homeless families off the street. We house them, we clothe them, we feed them, and we help them out with other things,” Gokey said.
