Get your motor running at Quaker Steaks

- By Syd Kearney syd.kearney@chron.com

The first Houstonarea Quaker Steak & Lube opened this week in League City. The restaurant, part of a franchise chain that got its start in Pennsylvania, specializes in chicken wings served by the bucket with a choice of more than 25 sauces. Other signature dishes include baby-back ribs and 28-day-aged steaks.

The chain is known for its fun décor that pays tribute to old-school gas stations. Among its tributes are muscle cars displayed overhead on hydraulic grease racks, motorcycles and automotive memorabilia. The green-and-white exterior is eye-catching and the restaurant’s “garage” pa- tio, with its wrap-around overhead doors, is sure to be a happy-hour hit.

As for those happy hours, Quaker State hands-queezes its lemonade, which is served “leaded” with Tito’s vodka or in an “unleaded” version for kids. 2502 I-45 S. in League City, 281-614-1800.
