Williams moves up to district job
Austgen earns respect of peers with special honor
Oneof Clear Creek ISD’s most successful girls basketball coaches is turning in her whistle to begin a career in athletics administration.
Jana Williams has coached basketball for two decades, the last 12 at Clear Creek. She will continue her career in athletics as an assistant athletic director in Pasadena ISD beginning in August.
Williams will oversee the school district’s girls athletic programs.
Clear Creek won at least 20 games for five-straight seasons between 2006 and 2010. The 2011-12 team advanced to the third round.
Williams had a career record of 224-162 and twice was named coach of the year in District 24-5A. She also earned coach of the year honors while coaching at La Marque. Williams also has coached at The Woodlands and North Shore.
Coach of the Year
Deer Park’s Carrie Austgen was named the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year for 4A and 5A softball. Austgen led Deer Park to its second Class 5A state championship in three seasons.
The Lady Deer have won the last three Region III championships and will bring back plenty of talent with which to make another strong runin2015.
Sophomore Payton McBride and senior Caitlin Plocheck earned TGCA All-State honors as did LaPorte senior Tori Vidales.
Baseball All-Stars
There was plenty of local talent on display at the Houston Area Baseball Coaches All-Star games early this week.
Dobie’s Travarus Ansley, Clear Springs’ Blake Chisholm, Clear Creek’s Anthony Cole, Clear Brook’s Corey Julks, Dobie’s Michael Muñoz, LaPorte’s Colten Schmidt and Deer Park’s Tyler Wesley played for the Class 5A South team on Monday.
Christian Dick (Lutheran South) played for the 4A/Others South team on Tuesday.
