HSPVA Friends presents summer scholarshi­ps

HSPVA Friends, a nonprofit organizati­on supporting The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, has awarded 17 students with funding for arts education over the summer.

More than $17,000 was granted to student artists working to advance their skills.

Two students received $4,000 summer scholarshi­ps from The John E. Guid a Foundation.

Shilpa Sadagopan will study songwritin­g or vocal performanc­e at Grammy Camp in Los Angeles.

Faith Dagohoy will study violin at Cambridge Internatio­nal String Academy at Trinity College in Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Three students received $ 1,000 summer scholarshi­ps from The Ed and Birdie Dawley Educationa­l Trust.

Emily Wolfe will study vocal music at the Vocal Academy for High School Students at Oberlin Conservato­ry in Ohio. Haley Packer will study bassoon at Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute. Audrey Griffin will study creative writing at the Iowa Summer Writing Workshop in Iowa City, Iowa.

The following students received $500 scholarshi­ps to pursue studies in their focus area: Anna Peters, Sophie Margolin, Sofia Michaelide­s, Margaret Fisher, Jordyn Williams, Daniel Huerta and Emma Kerr, visual arts; Jazmine Blas and Fernell Hogan, theater; Nadia Halim, Makayla Matranga-Tidwell, dance; and Chris Sommer, jazz.

Hogan also received a $ 1,000 scholarshi­p from The Dr. R. Scott Allen Scholarshi­p Fund and a $500 scholarshi­p from the Dawley trust.
