Fireworks, performanc­es to highlight Katy’s July Fourth bash

The city of Katy and LaCenterra plan to light the evening skies on the Fourth of July, with Katy budgeting an additional $5,000 this year for fireworks and LaCenterra planning its fireworks display as the culminatio­n of an afternoon of events.

City officials said fire- works would be released from the east parking lot of Katy Mills Mall and will begin about 9:30 p.m.

LaCenterra also rolls out the fireworks about 9:30 p.m. on the Fourth, following an afternoon of events, including a patriotic bike parade and live music from 5:30-9:30p.m.

The seventh annual Fourth of July celebratio­n begins at 4:30 p.m. with a patriotic bike parade featuring bicycles decorated in red, white andblue.

Prizes for MostPatrio­tic Bike are to be given in first, second and third place, according to LaCenterra spokespers­on Lindsay Kaye.

Prizes will be prize packs from LaCenterra businesses.

There is no sign-up for the bike parade and no fee required.

Music begins at 5:30 with Sheila Marshall singingunt­il 7 p.m., followedby Chris Boss on guitar, sing- ing from 7:30-9:30 p.m., Kaye said.

Aninter-active Kids Zone will be set up at LaCenterra’s Central Green Park and will include stilt walkers, face painting and balloon art.

“We’ll also have a (disc jockey) and a photo booth. Kids will get to take home their photos from the photo booth,” Kaye said.

Food and beverages will be available at various stations.

No outside alcoholic beverages are allowed, but those attending the fireworks and other events are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
