Two new parks on Kuykendahl and Rankin roads will open in July.

The 10- acre Greenspoint Spring Recreation Area will feature a park designed for special-needs children on one side and the largest skateboard park in the nation on the other.

The special-needs park will be named Dylan Park in honor of a local child who was severely injured and later died from child abuse, according to the Greenspoint District website.

The park will have areas designed to engage children who are sight-impaired, hearing-impaired, autistic or wheelchairbound.

The completely fencedin park is located on Kuykendahl Road just south of the Rankin intersection. It will include open grassy areas for unstructured play, plus walking trails and a community center.

The 72,000-square-foot skate park will include a competition-scale Texas bowl featuring a full pipe, a 12-foot vertical ramp, a 10-foot bowl, banked walls and speed hips, according to the organization’s website.

The site also will have backyard-style pools and three flow bowls.

A section designed to emulate the street-skating experience will have ledges, rails, benches, banks, quarter pipes and stair obstacles.

Sally Bradford, executive director of the Greater Greenspoint Redevelopment Authority, said Dylan Park will open to thepublic July 24 and the skate park will open July 28.
