SYMPHONY NORTH PRESENTS: YOUNG ARTIST CONCERTO COMPETITION WINNERS
Patrick Pan, our First Place winner, will be performing the first movement of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto #3 in C Major.
Patrick Pan, 16, started piano at 3 and violin at 7. He studies piano with John and Nancy Weems. As a pianist, Patrick has won numerous competitions at the international, national, and state levels, including 1st place at the Dubois International Competition and 3rd at the 6th Yamaha USA SU International Competition. As the winner of the Houston Symphony Young Artist Competition, Patrick performed with the Houston Symphony in July 2013. In 2013, Patrick performed on NPR’s From The Top, which was broadcast on hundreds of NPR stations in America. On the violin, Patrick has also won numerous competitions and performed with several orchestras. In his free time, Patrick loves reading Hemingway and watching movies. Next year Patrick will enroll in the Harvard-New England Conservatory Joint Program, where he will receive a Bachelor’s degree in science in 2018 and a Master’s degree in piano performance in 2019.
Bowie, our Second Place winner, will be performing the first movement of Sibelius’ Violin concerto in D minor.
Bowie Lin began his violin studies at the age of six, and has studied with Joyce Durfee, Henry Rubin, and currently with Frank Huang. Bowie served as concertmaster of the TMEA All-Region Symphony Orchestra in 2012 and All-State Symphony Orchestra in 2014. Bowie’s other musical achievements include winning 1st place in Greater Houston Youth Orchestra Competition, Finalist in Houston Symphony League Concerto Competition, 2nd place at the Houston Civic Symphony Young Artist Competition, and 2nd place at the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. He is also a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. In his free time, Bowie enjoys watching movies, hanging out with his friends, listening to music, and trying new foods. Bowie will be attending Rice University next year.
