The body of a missing fisherman who was apparently steering a shrimp boat that capsized on Monday afternoon has been recovered.

Ronald Lynn Galloway, 42, of Old River-Winfree was found dead just before noon Tuesday by his father.

The elder man — Ron Galloway, who runs Captain Ron’s Shrimp in Baytown — searched independently with his own vessel.

“He went inside the pilot house of the boat and found a body,” said Petty Officer Manda Emery, a U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman.

The 41-foot vessel, called the “Mr. Anthony” and owned by the younger Galloway, overturned near Cedar Bayou on the Houston Ship Channel.

A search began around 3:45 p.m. Monday.

The Coast Guard as well as officials with the Chambers County Sheriff ’s Office, Port of Houston Fire Department and Harris County dive team looked for the missing mariner for nearly 17 hours with aircraft and boats — covering more than 38 square miles — before suspending their efforts around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Initial reports on Monday indicated that the boat had capsized with five people aboard, but there were, in fact, only four.

A Port of Houston Fireboat crew recovered two of the three people who were standing on the overturned vessel, including a 13-year-old boy and a 53-year-old man who were passengers. The third per- son was a Good Samaritan who “was trying to help out,” Emery said.

Later Monday, authorities used the ‘jaws of life’ to free a 20-year-old woman who was trapped underneath the boat. All three passengers were taken by Baytown EMS to a local hospital and are reported in stable condition.

The Cedar Bayou Channel remains closed for salvage efforts to remove the vessel from the waterway. Casualty and pollution investigations will commence simultaneously.
