Irvin Burns Boaz Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on May 23rd 2015 with his loving wife of 57 years at his side. He was born to the late Janie Hensley Mason and Samuel Robert Boaz in Martinsvil­le, Virginia on May 21, 1933. Irvin was preceded in death by his brother Kennon Robert Boaz and his grandson, James Michael Walker. He graduated from Martinsvil­le High School and went on to join the United States Army. He ended his service after eight years as a First Lieutenant and went on to earn a B.S. in Architectu­ral Engineerin­g and an M.S. in Structural Engineerin­g from Virginia Tech University.

During his service, he married Martha Gloria Patterson on August 4th, 1957. Irvin worked for Shell Oil Company for 31 years while he and Martha raised an active family of four. He enjoyed the highest accolades as a Civil Engineer and was well regarded by his colleagues and peers.

He is survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Martha; his sister Jane Carolyn; his children, Irvin (Burns) Jr., and wife Melissa; Michael, David, Lisa and husband James; grandchild­ren Kristi and husband Jake, Kylie, Michael Jr., Mackenzie, Jake, Cady, Katie, and Brett; greatgrand­children Gage, Carsyn, and Liam.

Irvin would sing or whistle while he worked on his home, his cars, refinishin­g wood antiques, or on his power walks. He led an incredibly active life but always made his wife and children his first priority.

He retired from Shell in 1993 and shortly afterwards became disabled for the last 21 years of his life. He couldn’t have asked for a better caretaker than his wife, Martha. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Forever in our hearts. Visitation 6-8 pm Wednesday May 27, 2015 at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Klein, Texas, 77379. Services at the US Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas, 77038, at 10:30 am on Thursday May 28, 2015.
