SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK Amber Digby performs traditional adult country

For the second year in a row, a thoroughbred is up to win the Triple Crown during the June 6 Belmont Stakes Racing Festival in New York.

American Pharoah is the horse to watch during the final of three races for the crown that started with its win of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in the previous months.

The race will be shown throughout the greater Spring area at the usual venues but the experience of watching the less-than-three-minute race and having a stake in its outcome can only be had at Sam Houston Race Park.

The track begins its early-bird pre-race wagering at 7:30 a.m. on June 6 at the Valet Parking Circle until 9:30 a.m.; the park opens at 10:30 a.m. for simulcast racing.

The race won’t actually occur until 5:40 p.m. our time.

Last year, California Chrome was contending for the Triple Crown, but came in fourth place in the Belmont Stakes.

The last horse to win the Triple Crown was Affirmed in 1978.

Since then, American Pharoah is the fourteenth contender to come so close to the esteemed American prize.
