Fusion of the Arts features area author
Retired U.S. Col. Robert H. Sholly will talk about his book, “Young Soldiers Amazing Warriors,” and the art of writing during Fusion of the Arts, a juried art show and lecture to be held Sept. 19.
Fusion of the Arts is a joint program of the Pearland Alliance for Arts and Culture and the Pearland Arts League. The event will be from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the Pearland Alliance for Arts and Culture office located at 2341 N. Galveston St. in Pearland.

Before the two events, a welcome reception will be held from 3:30 to 4 p.m. The event’s featured speaker, Sholly, will discuss writing and his book from 4 to 4:45 p.m. The lecture will be held next door to the arts and culture organization’s office in the CJ Nelson Auditorium.
Sholly is a Pearland resident and a multiple award-winning best-selling author, businessman and speaker.
His topics include project management, security issues, leadership, the Vietnam War and foreign and domestic affairs.
Sholly’s first book, “Young Soldiers Amazing Warriors,” is a firsthand account of a soldier’s daily life in a combat zone during the Vietnam War. The book was the grand prize winner of the Great Southeast Book Festival, the winner of the military nonfiction award given by the National Indie Excellence Awards and 18 other literary awards. Sholly will sign copies of his first book at 6 p.m.
Sholly is a member of the Army Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame and was a member of the United Nations international peacekeeping forces that won a Nobel Peace Prize.
This month, he will release his second book, “The Soul of Success,” a compilation book he wrote with international bestselling author Jack Canfield and other experts. He is to receive a Quilly Award, presented by the National Academy of Best-selling Authors, this month in Hollywood.
Sholly was recently named a leading expert in entrepreneurship by America’s PremierExperts, an organization that recognizes experts across a variety of industries that are willing to provide information and education to consumers as a public service.
The joint program also will include the Pearland Arts League’s Fifth Annual Juried Art Exhibition from 4 to 5 p.m. at the arts and culture facility.
Dennis LaValley, art department chair at Alvin Community College, will serve as the juror.
A joint reception will follow the two events at 5 p.m. The art show’s awards presentation will take place at 5:30 p.m. An open art exhibit will follow from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. during which guests will be able to vote for the show’s People’s Choice Award.
