John B. Smart Jr., 73, also known as “Sonny” and “Big Juan”, left to be with the Father, on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Memorial Hermann Hospital, located in Houston, Texas, after fighting a heroic battle with injuries sustained from an automobile accident in early July. John was born in Montgomery, Alabama on March 4, 1942. He graduated from Taft High School in 1960 and from Texas A&I Kingsville in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Yvonne Bayless in 1965 and began his career.

John is survived by his wife, Frances, of 50 years, son John B. Smart III “Trey” and his wife Kristi Lyn Smart, two loving grandchild­ren, John B. Smart IV “Cuatro” and Clayton T. Smart, brother, Marvin Lee (Marv) Smart and his wife Nancy, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and close friends. John was a hard-working, dedicated father, husband, grandfathe­r and friend to all those lucky enough to have come into his presence.

John was a passionate man, who enjoyed a long, successful career as an executive for Sysco Foods Corporatio­n, prior to retiring from the business world approximat­ely eighteen years ago. After retirement, John focused his interests on raising Longhorn cattle and pursuing his love of wildlife game management and hunting. He was well known and respected in both of these areas by all those he touched. John also served on the Council for the City of Fulshear, Texas from 2000 until 2006.
