Saturday was a bloody night in Houston: Seven different shooting scenes resulted in 11 victims, including two fatalities. The crime-heavy night involved four double shootings and two armed-robbery shootings.

The first incident of the night began around 10:30 with a taco truck holdup in south Houston. At the Taco Stand in a convenience store parking lot at 8615 Winkler Drive, near Hobby Airport, two men, one of whom was armed, demanded cash. When two female employees resisted, one of the men fired a shot that hit both women and fled the scene without any cash. The employees, ages 17 and 37, were transported to Memorial Hermann and Ben Taub hospitals in serious but stable condition.

Fifteen minutes later, the same two men were involved in another armed robbery shooting just half a mile away at another Taco Stand off Winkler Drive and Wier Drive.

The men again demanded money and fired multiple shots at another female employee, who was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition. Police believe the suspects are two men in their 20s.

Cars with bullet holes

The third shooting scene of the night unfolded at 12:15 a.m. in east Houston, near Jacinto City. While frequenting Chic’s Cabaret at East Freeway and Mercury Drive, two groups of men got into a brawl that spilled out into the parking lot, where at least one man began shooting.

One man died at the scene, while another was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in serious but stable condition, said HPD Sgt. Joel Burton. Both shooters and the rest of the men involved fled, taking the weapons.

Another shooting occurred 20 minutes later at an apartment complex in west Houston. Houston police officers responded around 12:25 a.m. to the back of the complex on the 9800 block of Meadowglen Lane near Elmside Drive, where they found a man dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Although the investigation remains preliminary, authorities believe the suspects to be two men.

“This at this point in time appears to be a robbery,” said Detective John Parker.

Saturday night’s fifth shooting scene happened 20 minutes later at another apartment complex near Missouri City. At around 12:45 a.m., Houston police officers responded to the 12000 block of Sandpiper Drive, where they discovered two men lying in the parking lot of Piper’s Crossing apartments and several cars with bul- let holes. Both men were brought to the hospital in serious but stable condition and were not cooperating with authorities.

Final incident

Less than an hour later, a third convenience store was targeted by armed robbers in southeast Houston. At a Texaco Convenience Store in the 5400 block of Airport Boulevard, at around 1:3o a.m. two men wearing ski masks entered, brandishing guns and demanding money.

Gunfire ensued when the clerk grabbed a shotgun from under the counter, and the suspects fled without taking anything from the store.

The clerk was shot, as was a suspect who was apprehended a few blocks away.

The final incident of the night unfolded at a southwest Houston intersection. At around 2 a.m., Houston police officers approached a car stopped in the middle of the intersection of Beechnut Street and West Sam Houston Parkway.

They found the driver, who had been shot through the driver’s side window, collapsed and bleeding in the car.

Authorities believe the man had been shot at a nearby apartment complex before escaping in his car. The victim was transported to the hospital in serious
