Foster happy with steady progress
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Standing inside a victorious Texans locker room Sunday, running back Arian Foster was practically effusive.
A win and a touchdown tend to have that effect.
In his third game back from groin surgery in August, Foster caught a 14-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter from quarterback Brian Hoyer to give the Texans an early lead in an eventual 31-20 win over the Jaguars.
Although Foster fumbled in the second quarter when defensive end Chris Clemons blasted the ball out of his hand, it was recovered by rookie lineman Kendall Lamm. This was easily Foster’s most impressive performance since he returned from his injury. He rushed for a season-high 53 yards on 18 carries and caught five passes for 59 yards.
“I’m getting there,” Foster said. “I still don’t feel like I’m 100 (percent), but I’m getting there. It’s going to take time.”
Foster has 104 rushing yards on 45 carries but had his longest run of the season Sunday with a 16-yarder on which he kept his balance with one hand and broke tackles.
He has caught 17 passes for 161 yards and one score.
“Arian played his heart out,” tackle Duane Brown said. “I had a few blocks I would like back to spring him for more yards. He does a great job in the running game and the receiving game. He’s a double threat.”
