M. Jean Ferrata, born January 17, 1935 in St. Petersburg, Florida, died peacefully in her Houston home on November 4, 2015.

Jean had a special love for animals of all kinds. She put that love to work by opening Petite Poodle Shop on Ella Boulevard in Houston, Texas where she took great pleasure in providing exceptiona­l care to her customers. After her career as a groomer and with her children raised, Jean began a career as a receptioni­st at Sewell & Riggs law firm, Houston, Texas where she worked until retirement.

After retirement, she focused on her growing family. Jean loved to cook and she kept her family well fed. To Jean, family was everything. There was no gathering that she did not pour her heart and soul into. She was truly the glue that held it all together.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy “Dot” Hill and Courtney Grayson; her brother Doug Grayson; and her stepson Gregory W. Ferrata. She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, John B. Ferrata, Jr.; her daughter Sheri Boyd; son Bobby Greer and wife Shelly; step sons John B. Ferrata III and his wife Robin; Paul D. Ferrata and his wife Nicole; step daughter Charlotte E. Toney and her husband Ronnie H. Toney; twenty-one grandchild­ren and thirteen great grandchild­ren as well as countless extended family members and friends.

Friends are invited to visitation with the family on Sunday afternoon, November 8, 2015 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Earthman Funeral Directors at Hunters Creek, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024. Funeral services for Jean will be held on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1819 Heights Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77008. Interment will follow at Aggieland Field of Honor, College Station, Texas. In lieu of flowers, Jean has requested that donations be made to Citizens for Animal Protection, 1755 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas; www.cap4pets.com.

Jean will be remembered and loved by all who knew her, especially her beloved dog, Rocky.
