Keselowski claims pole for race at TMS

FORT WORTH — Brad Keselowski won the pole Friday for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup playoff race at Texas Motor Speedway.

Keselowski ran a fast lap of 196.929 mph.

Defending Sprint Cup champion Kevin Harvick was second to take the second front-row spot, with Chase contenders sweeping the first four positions. Kyle Busch was third, and Joey Logano qualified fourth.

Logano will start directly ahead of Erik Jones, who qualified sixth in the No. 20 car for Matt Kenseth, who was suspended for two races for intentiona­lly wrecking Logano last week at Martinsvil­le, Va.

Jeff Gordon, the only driver locked in for a title shot in the Nov. 22 season finale, qualified 18th, and defending race champion Jimmie Johnson will start eighth.

In other motor sports news:

• Points leader Erik Jones raced to his third NASCAR Camping World Truck victory of the year with a dominating run at Texas Motor Speedway. Jones, 19, led a 1-2 sweep for Kyle Busch Motorsport­s, easily holding off Daniel Suarez. Jones led 117 of the 147 laps on the 1.5-mile track en route to his seventh career victory in the series.

Jones also will race Saturday in the Xfinity Series race and sub for the suspended Matt Kenseth on Sunday in the Sprint Cup event. Jones won the Xfinity race at Texas in April.
