Uzi Halevy
1936-2015
Uzi Halevy, 79, of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Israel, passed away suddenly on November 7, 2015. Uzi was the beloved husband of Michal “Micki” Halevy, and father to Amir (and his wife Amy Karff Halevy), Ellie (and her husband Larry Kalman), and Tammy. He was the cherished older brother of his sister Ada Friedman (and her husband Yanai) of Jerusalem. Uzi was the proud Saba, grandfather, of Jacob and Daniel Halevy and Orli and Gabriel Kalman.
Uzi and Micki were married for 56 years and shared a life filled with love, family, friends, travel, and music. They were perfectly matched in their intellectual curiosity and desire to learn. They created a home and family life that reflected their appreciation of education and knowledge. Uzi was extraordinarily proud of each of his children and grandchildren. Travel was a particular interest of Uzi and Micki and during their 56 years they traveled to every continent and every major country in the world.
Uzi embraced and appreciated technology and particularly enjoyed keeping up with his family and friends via his cell phone. Uzi loved sports and played basketball as a youth and throughout his life.
Uzi was an 11th generation Israeli whose parents, Asher and Shoshana Halevy, were actively involved in the establishment of the State of Israel. Uzi came to the United States in 1964 for 3 years but ultimately settled in Houston, Texas, after spending a number of years in Wichita, Kansas. Although Uzi became a U.S. citizen and was proud of his U.S. citizenship, he remained staunchly loyal and supportive of the State of Israel.
Uzi earned his bachelor’s (cum laude) and master’s degree in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering from the Technion in Israel. He was active with the student union, served as chair of the International Student Exchange Program and was instrumental in establishing a student union book publishing house.
Uzi was recently awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Technion. Uzi served the Technion on the local, national and international levels. He served on the National Board of Directors and on the Technion Board of Governors. He was an inspiration and role model through his dedication to the Technion and Israel.
Before retiring in 1996, Uzi was the president and CEO of The Litwin Engineering Group, an international company that operated in the United States and around the world. After Uzi retired from Litwin at the age of 59, he contributed his keen intellect, extraordinary knowledge of the oil and gas business, and boundless energy to a number of other businesses and ventures.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 9, 2015 at Noon, in Congregation Brith Shalom, 4610 Bellaire Blvd, Bellaire, Texas, 77401. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 1037 N Post Oak Rd, Houston, Texas, 77055. Rabbi Ranon Teller will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be sent to the American Technion Society at 710 Post Oak Rd # 400, Houston, TX 77024.
