John Davis Morton

John Davis (Jack) Morton passed away on Oct. 31, 2015 at his home in Conroe. He was born in 1924 in Ferris, Texas, the oldest son of John T. and Cleva Duff Morton, and moved to Houston in 1931.

Jack graduated from Lamar High School in 1940 and attended Rice University before joining the Navy during WWII. He married his high school sweetheart, Katherine Kellogg, in Miami, Florida, while stationed at Key West. After the war, he graduated from the University of Texas.

He was employed by Shell Chemical for 17 years in Houston, New York and California, before joining George Mitchell and Associates in Houston in 1965. He retired as Vice President of Administra­tive Services for Mitchell Energy and Developmen­t Corp. in 1983.

Jack was active in his church and involved with many civic and historical groups, including the Sons of the American Revolution where he served as president of the Freedom Chapter for 7 years as well as a district VP and on the state audit committee. He volunteere­d for 17 years in the genealogy section of the Montgomery County Library in Conroe.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, his brother, Tommy D. Morton, and his sister-in-law, Sarah L. Morton, and is survived by three sons; Davis Morton (Susan) of Conroe, Richard Morton (Connie) of Maryland, and Harold Morton (Shelley) of Iowa; five grandchild­ren, six great grandchild­ren and one great-great grandchild.

Jack will be remembered by the many people he touched, and for his compassion, humility, and love of family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, 2200 Lake Woodlands Dr., The Woodlands, TX. Memorials may be sent to the The Woodlands United Methodist Church Foundation.
