Baylor stays No. 6, UH rises to No. 24 in new playoff poll

-

The latest College Football Playoff ranking didn’t have any bounce for Baylor after the Bears’ closer-than-expected 3124 victory at Kansas State last week.

The Bears remained No. 6 in the rankings released Tuesday night, behind the top five of Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Iowa.

Oklahoma State moved to No. 8 after a 49-29 triumph over TCU, which dropped to 15th.

Oklahoma is at No. 12 heading into a pivotal game Saturday night at Baylor.

Some analysts thought Oklahoma State would overtake Baylor and maybe even move into the top four after its impressive win over previously unbeaten TCU.

The committee still likes Baylor more, even though the Bears are yet to beat a team with a winning record.

“Oklahoma State had a good win,” committee chairman Jeff Long said. “That’s the first piece of real strength we’ve seen from them, with that win over TCU.”

The University of Houston moved up one spot to No. 24 and trails three other schools from the American Athletic Conference.

Navy is No. 20, followed by Memphis (21) and Temple (22). The highest-ranked champion from the so-called Group of Five receives a spot to either the Fiesta Bowl or Peach Bowl.

UH (9-0), one of six remaining undefeated teams, could gain ground with a backloaded schedule that includes remaining games against Memphis (Saturday), Navy (Nov. 27) and possibly Temple in the AAC Championship Game.
