Notable: The senior, who is verbally committed to attend the Air Force Academy, was effective on both sides of the ball in the Panthers’ 42-14 victory over Crosby, catching two passes for 67 yards to go with six tackles, seven pass breakups and two intercepti­ons on defense.

What Panthers coach Brett Sniffin said: “He’s amazing. He did it last year in the playoffs. He had two picks against Temple. The guy rises to the occasion.”

Carsen Edwards, Atascocita: Edwards scored 12 points and was key down the stretch in the Eagles’ 54-47 victory over Lancaster in the McDonald’s Texas Invitation­al, earning tournament MVP honors.

Ta’Zhawn Henry, Lamar: He finished with 420 all-purpose yards in a 31-17 victory over Eisenhower, which included 280 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 20 carries.

Jordan Myers, Dickinson: The senior had six catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns and 17 carries for 80 yards and another two touchdowns in the Gators’ 26-23 overtime victory over Pearland. Girls Mallory Nicholson Fort Bend Austin

Notable: The senior was named to the Class 6A state volleyball alltournam­ent team with a total of 43 assists and 27 digs in two matches.

What Bulldogs coach Amy Cataline said: “Mallory is a leader on the court and a competitor to the core. She does what it takes to get the point. That’s for sure.”

Other nominees

Carly Graham, Oak Ridge: She had 30 assists in the Class 6A state semifinals and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Abby Guidry, Kingwood: The senior was the top finisher from the Greater Houston area at the Nike Cross Nationals South Regional, coming in third with a time of 19 minutes, 48.30 seconds.

Chasity Patterson, North Shore: The junior guard led the Mustangs to a runner-up finish at the McDonald’s Texas Invitation­al and a 4-1 record over the weekend.
