Woody R. Cunningham, 72, of Houston, passed away at his home on December 17, 2015. Funeral Services for Mr. Cunningham will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2015 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings, TX.

Woody was born October 28, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Lonnie and Annie (Butts) Cunningham. He was the eldest of three children. He grew up in Corpus Christi and graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1962. He was the short stop on the first Tiger Baseball Team to earn a spot in the Sate High School Baseball Tournament. After High School, he became a Bearkat at Sam Houston State University and was a member of PI KAPPA ALPHA fraternity, and the ROTC. He graduated in 1966 with a Business and History Degree. Woody was commission­ed as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served as an Intelligen­ce Officer and was on General Westmorela­nd’s staff in Saigon during the Vietnam War. After his service, he moved to Houston and worked as a Petroleum Landman in the Oil and Gas industry.

Woody was involved with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and the Petroleum Landman’s Organizati­on. He truly enjoyed his family, baseball, old war movies, and discussing politics.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Annie Cunningham.

He is survived by two aunts, Grace Butts of Greenville, TX and Melbajo Butler of Oklahoma; uncle, Bill Cunningham of Ft. Worth; sister, Lynda and husband Charles Wrinkle of Lexington; brother, Larry and wife Kathy of The Woodlands; one niece; three nephews; five great nephews; one great niece, as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Memorials have been requested to be given to the Lexington Masonic Lodge # 138, a local American Legion or VFW Post, or the charity of your choice in his honor.
